Fourth graders in Janine Bonura’s class at Manor Oaks School recently utilized Chromebooks to assist in their reading/writing unit.
Over the course of three sessions, the students headed to the school’s library to prepare for their research paper on a specific animal. New Hyde Park-Garden City Park School District Library Media Specialist Sharon Layburn assisted the class in finding research and nonfiction books in the library, working on a simple bibliography on paper, and researching their animal topics on the Chromebooks.
Layburn provided preselected websites, like World Book Online and National Geographic Kids, to assist them in their research.
This project helped the students learn notetaking and research skills, as well as demonstrated a co-teaching model.
