In honor of School Board Recognition Week, held from Oct. 12-16, New Hyde Park -Garden City Park paid tribute to its dedicated board members during the meeting on Oct. 14.
“Serving on a board of education is no small responsibility,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jennifer Morrison-Raptis said. “It requires countless hours, thoughtful decision making, difficult conversations and a genuine commitment to doing what is best for children. Much of the work that they do happens behind the scenes, and its impact is felt every single day in our classrooms, throughout our schools and across our community. On behalf of our students, staff, administrators and families, thank you for your time, your partnership and your willingness to serve.”
The building administrative team collaborated on a presentation for the board, noting that the district’s Portrait of a Learner attributes – collaboration, communication, empathy, innovation, learner’s mindset and technology/media literacy – are qualities seen reflected in their leadership. This year, the principals gifted each board member with a notebook, as they “help write the story of the district.”
Following the board recognition, Hillside Grade School teacher Jilian Sozomenu was granted tenure.
