Our district proudly partnered with BOCES to host a Literacy Attestation Think Tank (Under the LiteraSEA), at Garden City Park School on June 16. More than 40 districts from across Long Island were invited to attend.
Garden City Park student-musicians welcomed guests as they arrived in the gymnasium. The event began with a brief presentation outlining the purpose behind the work, followed by goal setting and updates from NYSED. Guests then transitioned into reviewing the remaining components of the Literacy Attestation — comprehension, oral language and writing.
The first component (comprehension) began with an open forum for thoughts, insights and questions. From there, schools reviewed their curricula through table discussions. Before moving onto the next component, the floor was once again open for questions, reflections and discussions. This same format was followed for the oral language and writing sections.
The day concluded with a reflection survey and a lunch that gave districts a chance to mix and mingle. It was a productive and engaging day!
