The district honored the impressive accomplishments of multiple students at the board of education meeting on May 12.
Director of Curriculum and Instruction Kim LaRegina introduced three New Hyde Park Road School third graders who qualified to participate in the First in Math State Competition. The First in Math Tournament, an annual statewide mathematics competition, is designed for students in grades 1-8 across New York State. The tournament aims to enhance students’ math fluency and problem-solving skills through engaging, game-based challenges. In March, New Hyde Park-Garden City Park students participated in this tournament, answering grade-appropriate skill-based problems. Top performing students from each of the 10 regions qualified for the statewide championship event, which will be held on May 31. The third graders advancing to the championship are Joshua Howard, Shaoen Wang and Lucas Wu.
Following the recognition of the young mathematicians, New Hyde Park Road School students Rilla Gao and Joanna Weng were commended for being named as winners in the Town of Hempstead’s Recycling Poster Contest.
