The district is proud to announce that New Hyde Park Road School Principal Denise Connolly has been recognized as a recipient of the Nassau Association of School Technologists Award. Established by the Nassau BOCES NASTECH Service, the NASTAR Awards honor individuals who demonstrate outstanding innovation, leadership and support of technology initiatives within their school districts.
Ms. Connolly was recognized alongside fellow award recipients at the eighth annual NASTECH NASTAR Celebration, held on June 11.
“As principal of New Hyde Park Road School, Denise has shown what it truly means to lead with vision, innovation and heart,” Director of Technology and Innovation Jennifer Scamell said. “She has helped transform technology from simply a tool into a meaningful part of teaching and learning, empowering both students and staff to grow, create and succeed.”

The district’s Tech Squad, a group of sixth grade students who provide technology support to their peers once a week, enjoyed a hands-on field trip to Nerds That Care, a computer support provider in Hauppauge, on June 4.
The culminating experience gave students a behind-the-scenes look at a real-world computer networking and cybersecurity business. Guided by James Rocker, founder and CEO, students explored the fast-growing field of information technology and learned about the many career opportunities it offers.
The day featured an engaging presentation and a comprehensive tour of the facility. For many students, the highlight was the interactive activities, which provided valuable hands-on experience with modern cybersecurity practices and computing concepts.
“Seeing my vision for the Tech Squad come to reality was incredibly rewarding," said Technology Integration Specialist Jeanine Laurino, who coordinated the field trip. "Our students were deeply engaged, enthusiastic and asked phenomenal questions throughout the tour.”

The New Hyde Park-Garden City Park community came together to celebrate the outstanding achievements of students and staff during the board of education meeting on June 8.
The evening began with a special musical performance by New Hyde Park Road School sixth grader Jensen Wu, who performed a violin duet alongside orchestra teacher Alyssa Budzynski. Together, the pair delivered an impressive rendition of Mozart’s “Der Spiegel Violin Duet.” In addition to his accomplishments on the violin, Wu has been accepted to the Manhattan School of Music for his exceptional talent on the bassoon.
Following the performance, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jennifer Morrison-Raptis recognized winners of the Walt Whitman Birthplace Association Poetry Contest. Michael Mathew, a third grader at Hillside Grade School, and Emily Marracino, a third grader at Manor Oaks School, shared their award-winning original poems with attendees. Their work has been published in the 40th annual Student Poetry Contest Honorees book.
The district also recognized several staff members who were granted tenure in acknowledgment of their dedication and contributions to the district. Those receiving tenure were Director of Personnel Amy Faccio, Director of Curriculum and Instruction Kim LaRegina, teacher Carrie Bruno and teacher Andrea Verios.
The evening’s recognitions concluded with an administrative appointment, as New Hyde Park Road School teacher Kelly Setiadi was officially named the new assistant principal of Garden City Park School and Hillside Grade School.

The district is proud to announce that four students have been accepted into a competitive mathematics program at the Institute of Creative Problem Solving for Gifted and Talented Students at Stony Brook University.
Congratulations to Manor Oaks School sixth grader Fiona Chen, New Hyde Park Road School fifth grader Arshan Hossain, New Hyde Park Road School sixth grader Alex Lian and New Hyde Park Road School fourth grader Lucas Wu.
Each year, more than 500 outstanding students are nominated on Long Island for 84 available spots. Selection by the Institute implies that a student is among the top one-tenth of one percent of all students in mathematics on Long Island in his or her grade. Acceptance is based on three criteria: a rigorous entrance exam, a recommendation from the student's math teacher and a school transcript or report card.
Chen, Hossain, Lian and Wu will begin classes in September 2026, where they will spend 60 hours in class and on related outside projects. They will learn about mathematical topics such as algebra, geometry and number theory, as well as others not included in the standard courses of study, like problem-solving applied to probability, theory of finite differences and mass point geometry. Additionally, selected applications of mathematics taken from science and engineering are presented and discussed.

July 26, 2023 Dear #proud2Bnhpgcp Families, It has come to my attention that the ParentVue parent portal app is not working properly. In order to prepare for the 2023-2024 school year, students were promoted to the next grade level. This rolling over to the new year has resulted in the app experiencing several issues. Parents have reported they cannot log in to the app, and/or parents have been able to view the name of a classroom teacher on the ParentVue app. Please be aware that any teacher assignment in ParentVue is not necessarily the correct placement for your child. All placements for the 2023-2024 school year will be posted at the end of August. Your child’s principal will notify you when class placements have been finalized and posted to ParentVue. We are working with Synergy to fix the mobile app and hope to have it working as soon as possible. In the meantime, you can still log in to the ParentVue parent portal online. We apologize for any confusion or inconvenience. Jennifer Scamell Director of Technology and Innovation
